Jason Kelce Retirement: Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro center hangs his boots following playoff loss.

NEW DELHI: All-Pro center Jason Kelce has decided to retire after the team’s playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. Three anonymous sources informed The Associated Press of Kelce’s decision, which, as of now, has not been officially made public.

Kelce, 36, who became visibly emotional at the conclusion of the playoff loss, reportedly conveyed his retirement decision to teammates in the postgame locker room on Monday night. The seasoned center, a sixth-round pick in the 2011 draft, has been contemplating retirement for several seasons.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni expressed his admiration for Kelce after the game, stating, “I love him. Yeah, obviously we’re not there at that position yet, ready to talk about that, but he’s special and I love him. He’s one of the most special guys I’ve been around. He’s always got a place here, and always want him to play.”

Kelce’s football journey spans 13 seasons with the Eagles, making him the franchise’s all-time leader in games played. Known for his burly frame, bushy-haired, and bearded appearance, Kelce has been a stalwart of the Eagles’ offensive line, earning seven Pro Bowl selections and playing a crucial role in the team’s victory in Super Bowl LII in 2017.

Off the field, Kelce endeared himself to the Philadelphia faithful, showcasing his charismatic personality. His iconic moment came during the Super Bowl parade in 2018 when he dressed as one of Philadelphia’s famed Mummers and delivered a passionate, profane speech that resonated with fans.

“He’s a legend in the city. Really in the league,” commented Eagles QB Jalen Hurts. “His journey to where he is now didn’t come easy. It’s been a long, long time coming for him, and every year since I’ve been here it’s been, are you going to come back? But he knows how much I love and appreciate him. He knows how much I’ve learned from him. He’ll forever have a special place in my heart.”
